All followers of Jesus Christ are called to give thanks to God for our gifts and talents, and to pass on that generosity to others.
The lifestyle of Christian stewardship involves intentional, planned, and proportionate giving of our time, talent, and treasure. The following terms further explain this concept:
Intentional: We make a deliberate decision to live out the Christian life in a certain way. This includes returning to God a portion of our time, talent, and treasure.
Planned: We make stewardship of time and talent a regular part of our lifestyle and family activities, and we make stewardship of treasure a part of our annual budget and estate plans.
Proportionate: Each one of us gives according to our ability and our own particular circumstances. A recommended pattern is 5 percent of our annual income to the local parish church, and 5 percent to the worldwide Church and other charitable causes.
Giving our time involves being with God in prayer and worship, sharing our love with family and friends, and volunteering our time in parish and community activities that help others and build a better world.
Sharing our talents arises from the fact that God has given each one of us particular abilities and personal gifts. We glorify God when we develop our skills and use our abilities to build up the life of the Church and the society around us.
Sharing our treasure is as important as giving our time and talents. There are many ways to support the mission of the Church financially.
