Diocesan Conference Day to focus on Christ in the family

   The annual Conference Day will be February 13, at the San Angelo Convention Center.  The theme of the Conference is “CHRIST ... In Our Families ... In Our Hearts ... In Our World.”
   The focus of the day will be on family as domestic church and the impact family makes on the church community and the world.  The hope is to make us more effective parents, catechists and disciples.
   The General Directory for Catechesis states, “The family is defined as a ‘domestic church,’ that is, in every Christian family the different aspects and functions of the life of the entire church may be reflected: mission; catechesis; witness, prayer, etc.  Indeed in the same way as the Church, the family ‘is a place in which the Gospel is transmitted and from which it extends.’  The family as a locus of catechesis has a unique privilege: transmitting the Gospel by rooting it in the context of profound human values...It is, indeed, a Christian education more witnessed to than taught, more occasional that systematic, more ongoing and daily than structured into periods.” (#255)
   The featured speaker is Greg “Dobie” Moser, the Executive Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and CYO for the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio.  He has worked in parish and diocesan ministry.   Dobie has given keynotes and done training and consultation in over 90 dioceses.  He is a writer, trainer, and leader in adolescent catechesis and family faith formation.
   Dobie has a MA in Family Systems  counseling from Mt. St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, and a D. Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South bend with a focus on leadership development and the human family.
   He and his wife Lisa enjoy (mostly) the joys and struggles of parenting their 7 children.  Together they volunteer in high school and junior high ministry and catechesis at St. Joseph Parish in Strongsville, Ohio.
      Registration begins at 7:45 AM.    The opening session is at 9:00 AM.  Lunch, included in the registration is at 12:30 PM.  A Sunday Liturgy, with Bishop Michael D. Pfeifer, OMI presiding is at 3:00 PM.  The day concludes at 4:00 PM. Registration  is $25.  For more information, contact the Office of Education and Formation at 325-651-7500.
